The task of this coursework is to simulate the flow around a circular cylinder. You can find numerous publications in the literature that show experimental and numerical findings about the flow around circular cylinders. For your simulation take the diameter of the cylinder as d=0.01m, and the inlet velocity as 70 m/s. Reynolds number is 48 000. Sketch a flow domain around the circular cylinder that extends at least 10d in upstream and at least 20d in downstream the cylinder. You can make the analysis 2-dimensional or 3- dimensional. You can choose either to make a steady or unsteady simulation. But please explain why you choose each numerical model and specify the necessary details. It is vital that any numerical simulation is 1. Grid independent, and 2. validated (as far as possible) against high quality experimental data. There are numerous experimental and numerical data published on flow around circular cylinders. Please conduct a literature survey and compare your findings with the published data.
